Michael Jantzen Studio

M-velopes are a series of functional art structures designed to be special places in which to escape from the normal reality of a predictable conventional space.  M-velopes play with the boundaries between sculpture, architecture, and furniture. They were designed by the artist Michael Jantzen, who hopes that those who encounter the M-velopes will be inspired to think more creatively about their own passions in life. The M-velopes aesthetics are based on the world famous M-house (also designed by Michael Jantzen) that was exhibited in the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The final shape of the M-velopes are generated from much simpler forms, which are subdivided into various segments, and hinged in and out to create the final form.  In many cases, the shape of the M-velopes can be changed by folding the panels into different configurations. This M-velope is made of painted, sustainable grown and preserved wood. It can be installed onto nearly any interior or exterior location, and it is sold in a series of ten structures.
