Duplex is a public art installation proposal that is part of my series of sculptures called, The House as a Metaphor.  These sculptures play with the iconic house shape in a variety of abstracted contexts, sometimes juxtaposing the house with other recognizable symbols. Minimal and conceptual, these sculptures are meant to interrogate the meaning of the house symbol by exploring how simple interventions affect its interpretation. In this case, the biochemical definition of the word duplex (a double-stranded polynucleotide molecule) was used as inspiration in the design of the two elongated symbolic house forms, which are intertwined together into one sculptural assemblage. Duplex was designed to be made of cast concrete, and it is my hope to have it placed into a public park.
